VISITATIONS

With Visitations, an in-process and performance exhibition Matthew-Robin Nye, Jacinthe Loranger and Laura Acosta insert their creative processes into FOFA Gallery spaces from July 20th to August 24th 2015, and invite friends.

Staged as a durational exhibition unveiling an accumulative process-based collaboration, Visitations questions how the result of the overlay of these artists and participants’ interactions could temporarily function as a society, mapping what could be referred to as “local”.

Visitations/Impossible Perspective with Marc Wieser

Please visit this link for an audio excerpt of Impossible Perspective.

Perspective: the illusory art of scale, depth, position in space.
Perspective: A point of view, an attitude, a way forward.

Impossible Perspective is a limited edition (1/3) multimedia work consisting of a full colour ink-jet 28” x 36” architectural rendering of Union Station’s Front Street colonnade and a 06:03 MP3 original stereo recording based on the musical contours of Gabriel Fauré’s Nocturne, Opus 63. Reimagined through a musical lens of alternative perspective, the audio portion of this work references and reverses the principle of the vanishing point theorem through an ever-expanding structure. The solo piano exists in uneasy but synergic relationship to its affectively reverberant digital enhancement, mirroring the confounded architectural perspective and digital illusions of the print. Warped sight-lines and stereo disorientation contribute to an interrogation of the subject’s spatial relationship to objects and surroundings. Subverting architectural authority and structural expectation, Impossible Perspective creates a virtual space for us to re-evaluate our attitudes, imagine a new way forward. Graphic, sonic and personal intermix as new perspectives offer themselves up, queering the conventional iconography associated with Union Station.

Impossible Perspective is offered in homage to the three physical structures that have constituted the civic face of Art Metropole since its first physical iteration in 1974. These sites triangulate over an urban landscape oriented toward and emanating from Union Station. But they have offered perspectives of a different nature: alternative, even impossible. Challenging the implied power structures in traditional urban design, these reclaimed structures have invited new perspectives, made room for the alternative and less-than-privileged, encouraged creativity.

In A Flash

With Marc Wieser

In a flash
a future opens up
but you’ve just as soon missed it
a moment between
stolen twilight
borrowed dawn
in a flash
one consciousness flickers into another
green opportunity
green between
don’t blink
don’t think
the pinprick of the moment-of-becoming happens
in a flash
explode the moment
stay a while
